what is reiki?
reiki is a form of energy healing that attends to our physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies through the re-aligning of our energy centres. reiki guides the body, heart, mind, and spirit into deeply supported spaces, creating the conditions for our own healing processes to activate. reiki allows us to confront the underlying emotions, thoughts, patterns, or habits that may be blocking or limiting us on our path through life. reiki invites us into deep dialogue with our own unique journey.
things to know about reiki with me:
-
before your session:
please abstain from consuming alcohol or other non-prescription substances 24 hours before and after your session.
please do not wear metal on/in the body during the session. remove ALL body piercings (nose, ear, nipple) wherever possible.
-
reiki is a participatory experience:
as i work in your energy field i will typically see images, hear messages, and sense emotional/energetic information. unless you have booked a silent session, i will share with you what i am sensing as we go. sometimes we need to work together to decipher what an image means. sometimes there aren’t any words but a lot of sensations. in reiki you may hear me sing, hum, cough, or sound. sound and vibrational healing is a part of moving energy.
-
messages don’t come from me
i am interpreting what is showing in your field. i am not giving you advice and i do not make medical diagnoses. you decide what to do with any information that comes up.
-
reiki is about sensing and feeling
you might feel hot, cold, itchy, squirmy, fall asleep, buzzy, and/or emotions may suddenly arise. you might see images or have strong associations. you might cough, laugh, cry, or need to move a lot, or fall asleep. these are all normal responses. don’t worry, there is no way to “do it wrong”.
-
let me know if there are any specific physical or emotional issues you would like to work on:
if something comes up that you do not want to work on in session that is OK. i will ask you before we begin any emotional work, or before leading you through any guided visualizations.
-
our session is confidential
in some instance i may talk to my teacher about a session, if so, i speak anonymously. if you have follow up questions about your session, please book a follow up with me.
-
reiki isn’t a “quick fix”.
as a method of accessing and nourishing spirit, reiki connects us to our highest potential. reiki can point to possible changes we might need to make in our day to day lives in order to support our wellness. some of these might challenge our perception of the life we thought we wanted, or point to habits and patterns we have that no longer serve us. ultimately our lives only change when we change.
most people find they benefit from reiki most with multiple sessions. once a month or once a season can be extremely beneficial for our physical, mental, and emotional health.
for folks experiencing chronic illness, reiki once a week can have a profound impact on wellness, emotional outlook, and quality of life.
-
Reiki does not replace medical intervention.
if you are having a medical emergency, severe physical symptoms, or an active infection/injury that requires medical assistance, please go to your nearest hospital. reiki is a wonderful supportive practice that aids our healing journeys, but does not replace medical intervention. i do not make medical diagnoses and do not offer same-day appointments.
-
after your session:
please drink lots of water for the rest of the day.
please abstain from alcohol and non-prescription substances for 24-48 hours to give the body/spirit time to absorb the session.
you might have to use the washroom more than usual. that is normal.
you might feel very tired/spacey/tender/internal or energized/refreshed after your session. sometimes these feelings can last a few days, so be tender to yourself.
sometimes we can sense that things we we’ve been holding in our fields have moved through and we feel a spaciousness we’re not used to, or we learn there is a wound we are in the process of healing. these can be uncomfortable and vulnerable feelings. if you feel vulnerable your session, please consider doing some self-care practices that bring joy, kindness, and nourishment to your heart.
Things to know About Your Distance/At Home Session
Reiki is a time to let yourself REST.
choose a comfy place to be where you feel you can relax. this could be a yoga mat with pillows on the floor, on a couch, or in your bed. have a light blanket/shawl nearby in case you get cool lying down for 60 minutes. please remove all metal from the body.
do i need to lay down?
an ideal physical position for reiki is lying down on your back with your legs uncrossed and your hands gently at your side, palms up. you can move around and shift, but want to gently move back to this position. if sitting is better for you, that’s totally ok!
options for distance reiki:
we decide on a time that works for both of us – ideally a 60 or 90 minute window in which you can turn your phone/devices off and not be disturbed. read the options below for choosing your preferred way to do the session:
“live” – on Zoom Audio or whatsapp call: so we can dialogue as the session goes
written report afterwards: you chill out on your own (put on nice music and relax) and i send you a written or voice note afterwards
option 1 is more participatory, option 2 is more focused on you obseriving your own experience.
can my pet be a part of my at home session?
yes! pets often like to cuddle up during reiki. feel free to share your space and session with them.
